You can do a trial export and import for free, no cost involved, just register on Pedigreesoft But I'm finding at the moment Pedigreesoft will not read a GEDCOM file that other systems will read.
Anyway the whole program is going over to a FLASH based system, early beta is on http://www.findmypast.com where my GEDCOM file will load but they haven't got all the navigation functions working yet so that's not satisfactory either. Have spoken to technical support in London and the guy said the full program is due for release early 2008 and under yet another new name.
In summary the old Pedigree interface is being souped up under FLASH and being released as a new program in the spring.
Meanwhile I'm using a guest registration on Ancester.com which does most things ,but the research tools are very USA based whereas FindMyPast will be UK oriented. If Geni.com allowed GEDCOM file upload, I would look at that too, but that feature is not offerred yet.
All these tools of course are trying to offer a new collaborative way of doing things. It'll be wonderful when they all work. Most currently fall down on managing relationships between the individual ancesters we load. If you make a mistake with a relationship, very often you have to delete a whole branch. At least http://ancester.com behaves properly in that respect, whilst being a bit old fashioned at the same time.
Good luck. |
