I'm researching Bernard W Reynolds (1919 - 1984).
Father: Fay Reynolds
Mother: Augusta Miller
Siblings: Maurice, O'Dell, Gene, and Darrell (all males)
His parents moved from Shelby, IA to MN after Maurice was born.

Dear Gardenbug,
I find Fay and Martha Reynolds with the four boys in Yellow Medicine Co., MN in the 1930 census. It claims that both parents were born in Iowa of parents born in Germany. However, I believe that the Germany info is incorrect where Fay T. is concerned. He appears in the Shelby Co., Iowa census as the son of James and Martha Reynolds, neither of which were born in Germany. James was born in Calif. in Mar. 1864 of a father born in Illinois and a mother from Ohio. Martha was born in Indiana in Jan. 1869 of a father born in Delaware and mother from Indiana. I took a little respit from genealogy in March, and I just now read your post. The census information you found is accurate, and I do have access to the original census images but thank you for your offer. You even found the inaccuracies.

Fay Thomas Reynolds & Martha Hulsebus had the following children:
Maurice F. b.24 Aug 1917
Bernard W. b. 11 Jan 1919 [my grandfather]
O'dell David b. 1920 [died in WW2 in Italy]
Gene W. b. 1 Feb 1927
Darrell Dean b. 23 Apr 1936

Fay's father, James W. Reynolds, was b.16 Mar 1864 in Marysville, CA and d.1944 in Minneapolis, MN. James W. Reynolds m. Martha McBride on 27 Feb 1889 in Defiance, Shelby, IA. Martha was b. Jan 1869 in Indiana. She is the d/o Thomas McBride and Sarah Ann Eller.

James & Martha had the following children:
Floy Merton (Dec 1889), Ada C. (May 1891), Clede (Aug 1893), Fay Thomas (Sep 1895), Zona Celeste (Apr 1901), Leoda (1904), & Vyonne (1906). All children born in IA.

James W. Reynolds' father seems to be William H. Reynolds b.1840 in IL. He m. Phoeba Jane [surname?] in 1862. Phoeba was b.1845 in Ohio.

William H. and Phoeba Jane had the following children:
John W. (1864 in CA), Mary J. (1866), John H. (1868), Theresa A. (1870), Syntha M. (1872), & Rachael (1876). All children after John W. were born in Iowa.

I believe William H.'s father to be John Reynolds b. 1812 in TN. He m. Elizabeth [surname?] b. 1815 in TN.

John & Elizabeth had the following children:
Andrew I. (1835 in TN), John (1839 in KY), Martha (1840 in KY), William H. (1841 in IL), Ashburn (1844in IL), Charlotte (1846 in KY), Hankerson (1850 in IL), Thomas F. (1851 in IL), Margaret (1857 in IL), & Elizabeth (1862 in IL).

I believe John Reynolds' father to be Gideon Reynolds b. 1779 in NC. Gideon could be a middle name, possibly Jesse Gideon Reynolds, not sure. The Gideon b.1779 was m.Anna or Hannah (b.1778 in SC). Found them on John's census.

I have yet to veryify a firm connection between William H. Reynolds & John Reynolds. Very common names then. However, I do believe that Gideon is the father of John Reynolds. I've been working off from census reports so far. Can you help me confirm this or rule it out???? Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
